Some Say (Circa, Summer of 2019)

Some say …
“You hope too much.”
“Fairy tales aren’t real.”
“You dream an impossible dream,
Of a man who doesn’t exist.”
But this man,
THIS man.
He proved what Some Say is false …
And I say,
I SAY …
Hope leads to belief,
And belief begets reality.

When we first arrived in Germany to live in the summer of 2018, Florian’s father and wife offered to take Florian’s sisters, their families and us on a vacation to a little island named “Schiermonnikoog” off the coast of Holland. We spent a week there riding bikes, exploring sand dunes, walking the vast beaches, playing games, flying kites and spending quality time with family.

It was on a bike ride with Florian one day during this idyllic holiday that I found inspiration for the poem “Some Say.”
